A small lure with huge potential
You already know our representative of the Vertical/Pelagic Series – the Bleak Slug Tail. It is an unusual Swallow-Tail lure with a narrow, delicate, spindle-shaped tail known as a slug tail. Although it has neither a classic paddle tail nor the V-shaped tail commonly found on Swallow-Tail lures, it attracts fish perfectly with its distinctive, subtle action. Since this lure is available in a length of 21 cm, we decided to expand the Predator Series with a smaller version. Mini Bleak Slug Tail is a downsized version of this popular Swallow-Tail lure. It is a 9 cm imitation of a bleak. We would immediately like to reassure anglers who may think this is still quite large for a perch lure – due to its shape, the lure appears even more slender and subtle. Its narrow tail tip makes it look even smaller and more delicate. Despite its length, it weighs only slightly more than 2 grams.
How to catch perch in open water?
How should you fish with Mini Bleak? There are numerous rigging options, from classic jig heads and Cheburashka rigs to drop shot. Triangular jig heads work particularly well, causing our bleak imitation to make uncoordinated, chaotic movements like a dying baitfish after every twitch. Another excellent option is a weighted offset hook. During the fall, instead of the typical head-first dive, the lure will glide through the water like an injured prey fish. These rigging methods are unbeatable for open-water perch guarding shoals of baitfish.

Equally effective near the bottom
When searching for perch closer to the bottom, it is worth using a Cheburashka rig, as its articulated construction provides the lure with the necessary freedom of movement. For precisely fishing selected areas, drop shot is an excellent choice. Thanks to the construction of its body and tail, Mini Bleak can be worked almost in one place, giving it an enticing action with nothing more than subtle movements of the rod tip, while the weight remains on the bottom. Simply rig the lure at the appropriate height.
Subtle action that gives you the edge
As you can see, Mini Bleak Slug Tail offers a huge range of possibilities. Although it does not produce the same built-in action as a classic paddle-tail or twister, its greatest strength lies precisely in the wide variety of presentations it offers and the angler’s ability to use creativity when working the lure. Whether you are targeting open-water perch or those patrolling close to the bottom, try Mini Bleak and you certainly will not be disappointed.
